Bumble’s New Feature in India Could be Unpopular With Women
For men using Bumble to find a date, a new feature has been introduced to enhance their chances. However, women in India might receive an overwhelming number of compliments from unfamiliar individuals, even before they have the opportunity to determine if someone is deserving of their attention.
Popular online dating app Bumble rolled out a new feature that allows users in India to send two “Complements” messages per week to other users they see in their feeds, even before finding a match. This is available to all Bumble users.
“Any Bumble user in India can send two greeting messages per week in a person’s profile prompts, bio or photos. Thanks can be seen and received in two ways – via someone’s Beeline and on their main encounters page,” the company said.
According to the online dating app, notifications are also available upon opening the app for those with countless Greetings.
Bumble claims this feature allows the “Bumble community” to be even more intentional about starting conversations in a positive way. “Members using climbs are statistically more likely to hit it off and more likely to have a good conversation,” Bumble India said.
According to a new study by Bumble, 85 percent of Indians surveyed said that receiving a compliment from a potential partner makes them more interested. But given the huge gender imbalance in dating apps in India, where male profiles vastly outnumber female profiles, this new feature may become annoying for some women, ending up with countless compliments every day.
While this may be a popular opinion, Bumble thinks otherwise. Samarpita Samaddar, Head of Communications, India, Bumble said, “At Bumble, we believe in the power of positivity and kindness, and that when compliments are the foundation of a conversation, you set the stage for the connection to begin in the best possible way. Using Compliments on Bumble can be as easy as sending a friendly message when you’ll come across someone’s profile with whom you share common interests, like your taste in music or your favorite movies!Friendliness and respect have always been at the heart of Bumble, and we know that this creates the foundation for healthy and equal relationships.
